Our Electrical Services

A S Electrical offers a full range of domestic and light commercial electrical services across Kingsbridge, Salcombe, and the South Hams. All work is carried out to BS 7671 wiring regulations, inspected and tested, with the appropriate certification supplied.

Full Electrical Installations

Whether you are building a new home, adding an extension, or converting a garage or loft, A S Electrical can handle the complete electrical installation from start to finish. We design, install, and certify all wiring, sockets, lighting, and distribution boards to current BS 7671 regulations.

Why it matters: A properly designed and installed electrical system is the foundation of a safe and comfortable home. Poor installations can lead to nuisance tripping, fire risk, and costly repairs down the line. Getting it right first time saves money and gives you peace of mind.

Consumer Unit / Fuse Board Upgrades

If your home still has an old-style fuse board with rewirable fuses or outdated MCBs, it may be time for an upgrade. A S Electrical will replace your existing unit with a modern consumer unit fitted with RCBOs and surge protection, giving every circuit its own individual protection against electric shock and fire.

Why it matters: RCBOs protect each circuit individually — so a fault in one room won't plunge the whole house into darkness. Combined with surge protection, your home is safeguarded against power spikes and dangerous faults. This is one of the single most impactful safety upgrades you can make.

Additional Sockets & Lighting

Need more sockets in the kitchen, USB charging points by the bed, or new lighting in a room? A S Electrical can add additional sockets, switches, and lighting circuits wherever you need them. We work neatly and with minimal disruption to your home.

Why it matters: Overloaded extension leads and trailing cables are not just untidy — they are a fire hazard. Having enough properly installed sockets and well-planned lighting makes your home safer, more convenient, and more enjoyable to live in.

Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)

An EICR is a thorough inspection and test of your electrical installation. A S Electrical will check the installation, identify defects or potential hazards, and provide a detailed written report. It is important for homeowners and is required at least every five years for rented homes covered by the Electrical Safety Standards regulations.

Why it matters: Electrical faults are a leading cause of house fires in the UK. Regular testing identifies deterioration, damage, and non-compliant work before it becomes dangerous. An EICR gives you a clear picture of the condition of your electrics and what, if anything, needs attention.

Electrical Testing & Inspection

Beyond full EICRs, A S Electrical offers targeted testing and inspection services. Whether you need a pre-purchase electrical survey, testing after a suspected fault, or periodic checks on specific circuits, we have the equipment and expertise to give you clear, honest results.

Why it matters: Knowing the true condition of your electrical installation gives you confidence. Whether buying a property, investigating a fault, or simply wanting reassurance, professional testing gives you the facts you need to make informed decisions.

Emergency Electrical Repairs

When you lose power or discover a dangerous electrical fault, you need it fixed fast. A S Electrical offers responsive emergency repair services across the South Hams. Whether it is a tripped board that will not reset, a burning smell from a socket, or a complete power outage, we will get to you as quickly as possible.

Why it matters: Electrical emergencies are not something to ignore or try to fix yourself. A loose connection, a short circuit, or a damaged cable can pose an immediate risk of fire or electrocution. Getting a qualified electrician on site quickly is the safest course of action.

LED Lighting & Downlights

Transform the look and feel of your home with modern LED lighting. A S Electrical installs downlights, under-cabinet lighting, feature lighting, and complete LED upgrades. We help you choose the right colour temperature and layout to get the perfect result for every room.

Why it matters: LED lighting uses a fraction of the energy of traditional bulbs, lasts far longer, and offers much more flexibility in design. A well-planned lighting scheme can completely transform a space — making it brighter, more inviting, and more energy efficient.

Rewiring

If your home has old rubber or lead-sheathed cables, a lack of earthing, or outdated wiring that no longer meets current standards, a full or partial rewire may be necessary. A S Electrical carries out rewires with care and efficiency, keeping disruption to a minimum while ensuring your home is safe and compliant.

Why it matters: Old wiring deteriorates over time and can become a serious fire and shock hazard. If your property was last wired more than 25 to 30 years ago, or you are seeing signs like flickering lights, warm sockets, or frequent tripping, a rewire could be the most important investment you make in your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question about our electrical services? Here are some of the most common things people ask.

How often should I get an EICR?
For an owner-occupied home, an EICR is generally recommended at least every 10 years and when buying a property. Rented homes covered by the Electrical Safety Standards regulations must be inspected and tested at least every five years. Older properties or installations showing signs of trouble may need checking sooner.
What is a consumer unit upgrade and do I need one?
A consumer unit (or fuse board) upgrade replaces your old fuse box with a modern unit fitted with RCBOs (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection) and surge protection. RCBOs give each circuit its own individual protection, so a fault on one circuit won't trip everything else in the house. If your home still has an older style fuse board, upgrading is one of the most important safety improvements you can make.
Do you provide certificates for your work?
Electrical work is inspected and tested, with the appropriate BS 7671 certificate supplied for the work completed. Where Building Regulations notification is required, the route for notification will be agreed with you before work starts.
What areas do you cover?
A S Electrical is based in Kingsbridge and serves Salcombe and the coastal and rural villages of the South Hams. If you are unsure whether you are in our service area, just give us a call or send a WhatsApp message and we will be happy to help.
